# Self-assignable roles

> Let members choose roles through a controlled role panel.

Selfrole panels make optional roles easy for members to manage without giving
them general role-management permissions. Setup requires **Manage Server** and
can publish one panel with up to 25 selectable roles.

| Command            | Use it to                |
| ------------------ | ------------------------ |
| `/selfrole setup`  | Create a self-role panel |
| `/selfrole config` | Edit an existing panel   |
| `/selfrole reset`  | Remove the panel         |

## Before publishing

* Create the roles members are allowed to choose.
* Put Hedwig above those roles.
* Decide whether the roles are for notifications, interests, or access.
* Test the panel with a regular member account.

The setup panel also supports a custom title, accent color, and emoji attached
to individual role options. `/selfrole config` edits the existing panel; use
`/selfrole reset` when the panel should be removed rather than merely changed.

<Note>
  A self-role panel does not bypass Discord's hierarchy. Hedwig still needs **Manage Roles**, and its role must be above every role in the panel.
