Use Hedwig’s greet and farewell systems to make onboarding consistent without manually posting every arrival and departure. Setup, test, and reset require Manage Server; the variables command is safe for members to view.

Welcome messages

Farewell messages

Setup flow

  1. Create a public welcome channel.
  2. Run /greet setup and choose the channel and message style.
  3. Run /greet variables to see the values available for your message.
  4. Run /greet test before enabling a large invite campaign.
  5. Repeat the flow with /farewell setup if you want departure messages.

Message variables

Both systems support the following variables: $leave_time is meaningful for farewell messages; $join_time may be Unknown when Discord has no join date available. The setup panel supports simple text, embeds, and Components V2 layouts with images, thumbnails, and link buttons.
Keep welcome messages short and action-oriented: explain where to read the rules, how to get roles, and where to ask for help. Always run the matching test command before opening the server to new members.
